Lahure Kitab

लाहुरे किताब (Lahure Kitab) is a German-Nepali publishing project that seeks to promote the mutual understanding of cultures.

Currently, we focus on German-language books on Nepal, which appear in our German series, Edition Kathmandu. Beside translations of fiction and literary essays by Nepali authors like Manjushree Thapa and Samrat Upadhyay, we publish non-fiction about Nepal, such as Nepalkunde, the popular geography by Wolf Donner.

In the future, we hope to add English non-fiction, particularly on the natural history of Nepal, and Nepali translations of world literature.

Lahure Kitab published its first book, a German translation of Manjushree Thapa’s novel The Tutor of History [Geheime Wahlen], in 2007. The translation of Samrat Upadhyay’s novel The Guru of Love [Der Liebesguru] (2009) was awarded the first place on the Weltempfänger list of best African, Asian and Latin American fiction (Weltempfänger 6/2010). More books by both authors are forthcoming.

Lahure Kitab is directed by Philipp P. Thapa and run mainly with the support of his wife, Claudia Oehmke, both currently based in Pokhara.
